Diploma in Montessori
About Course
Overview of Rookies Montessori Center Diploma in Assistant Montessori Teacher Education
At Rookie’s Montessori Center, our Diploma in Montessori Teacher Education is carefully structured to provide a strong, step-by-step pathway into authentic Montessori training. The program is designed to ensure that every learner builds a solid foundation in Montessori philosophy, child development, classroom practice, and curriculum understanding before progressing into full Montessori teacher certification.
One of the unique strengths of our training model is that every student begins with the Assistant Teacher curriculum. This is not optional, because it forms the foundation of the entire Montessori journey. Before a person can effectively teach in a Montessori environment, they must first understand the core principles, purpose, and structure of Montessori education. The Assistant Teacher level introduces learners to the fundamentals of Montessori, helping them understand not only what Montessori is, but also why it works.
This foundational stage equips learners with essential knowledge in areas such as Montessori philosophy, the role of the adult, child development, observation, classroom expectations, respect for the child, the prepared environment, and practical life activities. These elements are critical because they shape the mindset and approach required for working successfully in a Montessori setting. In this way, the Assistant Teacher curriculum serves as the entry point and bedrock upon which the rest of the diploma and certification pathway is built.

Stage One: Assistant Montessori Teacher Foundation
The first phase of the program is the Assistant Teacher curriculum, and it is a compulsory part of the training for all students. This stage focuses on giving learners a clear understanding of the Montessori method and preparing them to support children meaningfully within a Montessori environment.
At this level, learners are introduced to the essential foundations of Montessori education, including:
- Montessori philosophy and principles
- Understanding the child
- The prepared environment
- Observation and classroom awareness
- Grace and courtesy
- The role of the adult in Montessori
- Practical Life activities and their purpose
- Supporting order, independence, and concentration in children
Importantly, the Assistant Montessori Teacher Diploma still includes Practical Life as part of its curriculum, because Practical Life is one of the most important foundations in Montessori education. Through this area, learners understand how children develop coordination, concentration, order, confidence, independence, and responsibility through meaningful everyday activities.
However, at the Assistant Montessori Diploma Stage, the training is still considered a partial completion of the full Montessori teaching pathway. In other words, the learner has now gone beyond basic assistant-level understanding and has earned a stronger Montessori qualification, but has not yet completed all the curriculum areas required for full Montessori teacher certification.
At the completion of this level, the learner earns 2 Diploma qualification as
✅️ Assistant Montessori Teacher
✅️ Early Childhood Development
Which recognizes their expanded training and growing competence in Montessori education and Early Childhood development.
By the end of this stage, students gain a strong foundational understanding of Montessori education and are equipped to function as a Montessori Assistant Teacher and Early Childhood Development Professional. At this point, learners earn a qualification that reflects their knowledge and ability to support a Montessori classroom at the assistant level or any role as an Early Childhood development professional.
This Assistant Montessori Teacher will need to complete the Montessori curriculum areas to fully qualify for Diploma in other Montessori Certification
After successfully completing the Assistant Teacher foundation, learners proceed into the Diploma-level training, where they begin to study Montessori more deeply and more professionally.

- This diploma focuses entirely on the child—their growth, behavior, and needs
- Child development stages
- Understanding behavior
- Managing children (including discipline and tantrums)
- Emotional and social development
- What to observe and look out for in each stage
It prepares someone to understand, guide, and care for children, but not to teach lessons

Diploma Assistant Montessori Teacher
- This diploma includes
- All the knowledge of child development
- Plus Montessori classroom practice
- Assisting with materials and presentations
- Supporting learning activities in a structured environment

Why the Assistant Montessori Teacher Qualifies for the Early Childhood Development Diploma
- An Assistant Montessori Teacher has already completed in-depth training in child development, including
- Developmental stages
- Behavior understanding
- Managing children
- Handling discipline and tantrums
- Observing and responding to children’s needs
This means they fully meet the requirements of
- Diploma in Early Childhood Development
- Because that diploma is based on understanding and managing the child, which they have already mastered
A Dual Qualification: Two Diplomas in One Program
✅️ Assistant Montessori Teacher
✅️ Diploma in Early Childhood Development
A Dual Qualification: Two Diplomas in One Program
A major advantage of this program is that learners graduate with two valuable diplomas:
- Diploma in Assistant Montessori Teacher
and
- Diploma in Early Childhood Development
This means the learner is not limited to one training perspective. Instead, they receive a dual foundation that strengthens both their knowledge and their professional opportunities.
At Rookie’s Montessori Center, this structure reflects an important educational truth: Montessori is one of the strongest foundations upon which quality early childhood development can be built.
Montessori does not only teach classroom techniques, it develops a deep understanding of:
- How children learn
- How they grow and develop
- How to guide them respectfully
- How to support independence
- How to create meaningful learning environments
Because of this, Montessori naturally supports and strengthens the broader field of Early Childhood Development. That is why learners in this program are equipped to receive both qualifications.
